Ed Smith

Advising clients since: 1990

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) ARCS, DipFS, Cert CII (MP &ER)

Areas of expertise: Advice to doctors and surgeons. NHS Pensions. Income protection. Critical illness cover.

Ed has specialised in giving impartial advice to doctors and surgeons for his entire career as an IFA. Ed developed a large client base through giving talks to final year medical students at all of the UK’s medical schools. As a result, Ed has helped many clients from when they first started work all the way through to becoming GPs or hospital consultants, with many now having private practices. Ed has recently had his first client take early retirement, having advised her from the day she left medical school, all the way through her career and now into retirement. This experience of planning effectively from day one all the way through to retirement gives Ed great foresight and expertise in helping doctors make the correct decisions at all stages of their careers.

Ed has exceptional specialised knowledge of the three NHS Pension schemes, the NHS career structure, pay scales and an unparalleled knowledge of the most appropriate protection products for doctors and surgeons. Over the years he has personally worked with several product providers to design and improve their income protection and critical illness products specifically for the medical market. Ed continues to give talks to medical schools and consultants across the UK, resulting in the generation of new clients for other advisers within Westminster Wealth.

Away from work, Ed is a keen golfer, plays bass in two rock bands and is an avid and well-travelled birdwatcher, having seen over half the world’s bird species. When working as a scientist in Somalia, he discovered a new bird species for science, which has frustratingly now been lumped in with another species! He is also kept busy with his five adult children and step-children.
